The Three B’s of the North German Baroque
Thu, January 24, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Soloists from the Choir of St. Luke in the Fields, David Shuler, organist, and Baroque in the Fields will present “The Three B’s of the North German Baroque” on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 8 p.m. at the Church of Saint Luke in the Fields, 487 Hudson Street. There will be a lecture at 7 p.m.
Vivid improvisational passagework, the artistic use of counterpoint, and vocal and instrumental virtuosity are hallmarks of the North German Baroque style. Celebrating the innovative brilliance of the North German Baroque, this concert will feature vocal cantatas paired with solo organ works by Nicolaus Bruhns, Dieterich Buxtehude – a great genius whom J.S. Bach famously walked 250 miles to study with – and Johann Sebastian himself.
Tickets for the concert are $35, and $25 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be available at the door or in advance at bit.ly/stluketix. For further information, ticket sales or reservations, please call 212-414-7440 or write to firstname.lastname@example.org
